Steven A. Berkowitz graduated from
University of Maryland , College of Engineering , with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Immediately after graduating, Mr. Berkowitz began working with
a Fortune two hundred company, engineering, designing,
estimating and selling facility management systems. The
clients were, for the most part, contractors, engineers and
owners.
During his eleven-year tenure engineering
for, and consulting to contractors, Mr. Berkowitz attended law
school at Rutgers University in Camden , New Jersey , at
night, while working full time in the construction industry
and starting a family.
Mr. Berkowitz is general counsel to the
South Jersey Mechanical Contractors Association and the South
Jersey Building Contractors Association. He is also on the
Board of Directors for the South Jersey Mechanical Contractors
Association.
Mr.
Berkowitz appeared before the Assembly Labor Committee
regarding modifications to the listing requirements on public
bids which were later adopted.
The Statute was modified requiring contractors to be
registered at the time they are listed in accordance with his
testimony N.J.S.A.
34:11-56.51.
Consulting contractors, engineers and owners
with regard to budgeting, estimating and purchasing of large
systems as well as monitoring the installation and project
management thereof, gives Mr. Berkowitz an unique perspective
when applying legal principles to construction issues.
Steven
Berkowitz is an arbitrator on the prestigious panel of
neutrals of the American Arbitration Association. |
